Beyond Blame: How Constellations Help You Reclaim Your Power

How to move beyond blame and set yourself free:

What I have loved about constellations is how they help you to work through blame.

When you've been hurt, blaming is a normal reaction. It can be easy to become trapped and spend years, sometimes a lifetime waiting for an acknowledgement of what happened to you.

The person who hurt you may have been neglectful, cruel, selfish or simply unable to provide what you needed. Constellations don't take responsibility away from those who harmed you. They do not let people off the hook.

Nor are they about toxic positivity. They don't minimise what happened. They don't minimise the impact it had on you then, nor the impact it may still have today.
Stepping out of blame is not about forgetting what happened, excusing it or reconciling with those who caused harm.

For some the wounds are relatively ordinary human disappointments. For others, they are profound. .Some actions have life-changing consequences and deserve to be named as such.
Sometimes your wounds are not dramatic enough for others to notice. Sometimes they happened behind closed doors. Sometimes those involved are no longer alive. Often the people who did the hurting will never admit what they did. When this happens, it is easy to become trapped in a cycle of
"Acknowledge what happened to me!"
You can get caught in the victim-persecutor-rescuer drama triangle. The tragedy is that while waiting for recognition, the original harm continues to shape your life. The person who hurt you may no longer be present, yet their influence remains.
In a sense, they are still hooked into you

HOW CONSTELLATIONS HELP:

The aim of constellation work is not to take away the truth of your experience. It is to help ensure that what happened to you does not become the sole lens through which you experience the rest of your life. What is liberating about constellations is how they help you step out of this drama triangle.

Being respectfully witnessed in a circle finally lets that hidden victim part of you be fully seen. We honour the wound. We acknowledge its impact. And from there, we explore what becomes possible when the wound is no longer in charge. By bringing the wider system into view, constellations help you see the forces, loyalties, losses and limitations that shaped the people who came before you. You don't just "understand" the limitations intellectually, you witness them unfolding in front of you as the other participants represent the people involved. This understanding does not excuse harmful behaviour but it frees you because you are returning the guilt to whom it belongs.
As children, we naturally see the world through the eyes of a child. We know when something feels unfair. We can know when something is wrong. Yet we are largely powerless to change it. As adults, we have the opportunity to see a wider picture. A child may feel rejected when a parent repeatedly misses important events. The child sees only the absence. As an adult you eventually see the financial pressures, exhaustion, family responsibilities or unresolved struggles that limited that parent's capacity. The hurt remains real, but the story becomes larger. Constellations help us discover that larger story. When you can see the wider picture, blame often begins to loosen its grip.

You no longer need to spend all our energy proving that you were wronged. You can acknowledge what happened and the impact it had, while also reclaiming responsibility for the life that remains in front of us.

And that is where your power lies. In freeing yourself from being defined by your past.

If this resonates, I run. monthly family constellation workshops in Sussex exploring these patterns in a practical experiential way. Dates are here
